Vendor Spotlight – Tara’s Tasty Treats
Hello everyone, Kev here welcoming you to the eighth edition of the Oddmall Vendor Spotlight! This will be a recurring series to share with you all some of your local vendors and attendees of Oddmall shows, highlighting their incredible talents, wonderful personalities and amazing creations.
I got the opportunity recently to talk with one of our regular Oddmall attendees, group participants and Outpost consignees; Tara of Tara’s Tasty Treats! Known for her small batch jams and jellies, she has quickly become known for her high quality spreads and unique flavor combinations. With 119 available recipes, Tara is sure to have what you are looking for!
While only in her third year of attending events, Tara has been cooking for quite a long time! Growing up in Amish country, she had learned the craft of organic and additive-free jam making from her grandmother. “I made jam and jelly with my grandma who would have been turning 103 this year,” Tara includes. “I started making some for Christmas gifts and everyone raved over it and told me to sell it.” While she did have a job in healthcare at the time, she wanted to get out of the industry and took this as a challenge, and thus began the creation of her business.
Tara has been able to be so successful in part due to the support and love of the family around her; from her grandma who helped with so many of the original recipes, to her two daughters who sampled her products (albeit one of which likes to stick with the classic concord grape jelly), to her husband, a.k.a. The Jam Man. Since the passing of Tara’s grandma, he has been the biggest supporter of her business; taste testing every one of her products, carrying 50lb bags of sugar and every jar to each event they attend. The love of Tara’s family, both past and present, has been a driving force for her to continue to provide and innovate through the years.
For anyone who may not be familiar with Tara’s product, the element that makes her jams and jelly stand out is the uniqueness of every flavor, with the recent creation of corn cob jam which she created specially for Con on the Cob 2024! Some of her other recipes that you can’t find anywhere else are Celebration Cake, Savory Asian plum, and the incredibly popular Pineapple upside-down cake jam which is a personal favorite of hers as well as a best-seller. However the process never ends, as Tara is always looking to expand the line and find new combinations to bring to us. “Right now I am trying to figure out how to make a Chocolate Cake flavored jam to be followed by German Chocolate cake,” she adds. Although there is no flavor off-limits to Tara, she does admit that persimmon is one that has always eluded her, due to ripeness and astringency.
Beyond the plethora of flavor varieties, one thing I really appreciate about Tara’s jams is the process she follows. Produce is bought from farms and markets and she handles every step of the process from start to finish. With recipes created between her and her grandma, all off her foods are gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan. She doesn’t use any artificial coloring, flavors or high-fructose corn syrup; so you know that every jar you buy is going to be natural and delicious!
While you can find Tara’s Tasty Treats at the Oddmall Outpost, she also sells her products at various other stores and online marketplaces but you can always contact her through her Facebook page to purchase any jams and even request custom orders, just in case you don’t find what you are looking for in the 100+ available 🙂 And of course, be sure to look for Tara and The Jam Man at upcoming shows and try out a jar for yourself!
