Vendor Spotlight – Sisters Touched by Craft

Hello everyone, Kev here welcoming you to the first edition of the Oddmall Vendor Spotlight! This will be a recurring series to share with you all some of your local vendors and attendees of Oddmall shows, highlighting their incredible talents, wonderful personalities and amazing creations. 

Our first spotlight features a long-time Oddmall vendor who I’m sure many of you have become familiar with over the years! Krissie, also known as the Naughty Crocheter of Akron, is the owner and artist behind Sisters Touched by Craft. While famous for her adult creations, Krissie also has a wide variety of fantastic items available; from beautifully crocheted witch hats and fae creatures to spell jars and more!

Krissie’s journey began nearly 22 years ago when she took up crocheting. Less than 2 years later she began her business and has been attending shows and at consignment shops ever since. However what brought her to the hobby and business was due to unfortunate circumstances. “I started crocheting to help myself deal with being in an abusive relationship,” Krissie remarks. “ When I left I really focused on my crafting to work through the trauma and PTSD to help me do better for my children, one Autistic.” 

Although being put through a traumatic experience, Krissie continues to spread her joy through her work, cheerfully noting some of the positives that can be brought out through art. “I believe any type of crafting, arts and some type of exercise can help anyone who is struggling with any mental health issues,” she adds. “It’s a great way to release what you have bottled up inside you.” She also shares the amazing people you can meet through artwork and shows who truly understand you, one of my personal favorite aspects of Oddmall shows. 

When it comes to creating her art, Krissie takes an approach which I find very interesting. She will often find base patterns from places such as Ravelry, Pinterest, or Ko-Fi, then build upon it and customize it to make it uniquely hers. While some ideas may be inspired by the base pattern, her mood when customizing also plays a large part into the end product. 

While a regular vendor at the Oddmall Uncensored show every September, Sisters Touched by craft can regularly be found attending many shows throughout the year in Northeast Ohio so be sure to stop and say hello!
