Vendor (?) Spotlight – Kevin the Author

Hello everyone, Kev here welcoming you to edition 8.5 of the Oddmall Vendor Spotlight! This will be a non-recurring series where no vendors or cool crafters will be met, and instead I will babble half-heartedly in an attempt to free myself from minor writer’s block and perhaps giggle to myself along the way.

This week, I got the chance to talk to my inner monologue and answer all your burning questions, such as “what do you do when you aren’t writing spotlights,” or “If you were a Laffy Taffy, what flavor Laffy Taffy would you be,” or “Dude, are you okay?”

Kev began his writing journey as a Sophomore at Bartlett High School in Bartlett, IL, when he took Creative Writing as an elective because it sounded cooler than home economics or Geography. It was then that he discovered his enjoyment in the hobby and applied it to song-writing, short stories and poetry but we don’t talk about that last one.

Continuing in the hobby, he weaseled his way into a Creative Writing Scholarship at Elgin Community College with his extended adaptation of Ludo’s Broken Bride. While there, he spent majority of his time focusing on episodic short stories and fine-tuning his song writing, performing at notable venues such as Barn that later burned down or Pub that closed during the pandemic. Critics loved the lyrics though, with quotes such as “Interesting”, “Those are certainly all words”, and “what?”

It wasn’t until many years of dormancy that Kev discovered role-playing games, where he felt his writing can best be honed. While originally writing campaigns and DMing for friends, he eventually expanded to writing characters, campaigns, lore and one-shots for friends over the years as a hobby. To this day, he continues to actively write his own worlds and campaigns, but is in between games at the moment.

When he isn’t at home writing Oddmall Vendor Spotlights, Kev can most often be found sleeping, playing Pokemon or watching videos about Tornadoes and Bob Dylan. The rest of the time, he is either traveling or attending Oddmall shows in Ohio. He is easy to spot, as he is the chubby dude with the iPad who helps set up vendors the day before the show. His hidden talent is putting a table down somewhere and clearing its existence from his mind.

Feel free to stop and say hi to Kev at your next Oddmall show and ask him if you need help with writing an RPG character or need the best team for clearing the Elite 4 in whichever Pokemon game you’re playing. Also, banana Laffy Taffy.
